Would a Front Wheel drive have more power distribution as the drive wheels are right with the engine, thus less travel distance to project power and torque? Or is it the Rear Drive even though you have a 12' drive shaft and then a differential that the power is sent through before reaching the drive wheels? Just curious.

If you want to play with out this factors, like weight, traction, power, torque, weight transfer (you didnt mention and is very important), you can use a car performance simulator, there you can test how this parameters affect performance, try at http://www.carperformance.tk

How do engineers slow down trains?

It seems like trainz simulator is far from the real world. I recently learned that independent brakes are not used to slow down unless a train is switching. I try using the train brakes to slow down but I always have to put the throttle to 5 or 6 afterwards to compensate for the time it takes for the air to return to the resevoir. Lets say you were going 60 mph and you were about to enter a 48 mph section, how would you slow down?

answers:

It all depends on the terrain. On level or undulating territory you would use dynamic brake to slow down. The key to doing anything on a train is to plan ahead on what you will need to do. That's where knowing your territory is crucial. On an ascending grade you would just reduce the throttle and let the train weight slow you down. On a descending grade you would use dynamic brake supplemented by the automatic brakes if needed to get down to the speed you needed. We try to use the least amount of automatic brakes we can. A good engineer treats air like gold. The less of a set you use the more air you have in reserve if you need it later and the faster your train brakes recharge. Till the brake system recharges the less effective your brakes will be. Though rare too much use of the air brakes without allowing for recharge time can actually lead to loss of your brakes(calling pissing away your air). Usually once you get your speed down the dynamic alone will hold the train at the speed you want. It all depends on the weight your hauling. A good engineer thinks in three dimensions. Where they are, where the rear of the train is,and where they are going. The further ahead you can think the better you can plan on what needs to be done. A good engineer already had a plan in place long before he gets to the actual point of having do anything with their train.

It's all a balancing act... If you use more calories than you take in, you Lose Weight... If you use fewer, you gain weight. You need to burn about 3500 more calories than you take in for each pound you lose. So you need an extra 70,000 calories of exercise over a two month period, or about 1167 calories per day, over and above what you eat.

So let's look at a few exercises... And these are just estimates, because the calories you burn are also dependent on your weight. You can burn around 500 calories per hour jogging... So a hard two hour run every day is one option (you burn more running fast, but try doing that for an hour or more).
The cross country skiing machine I workout on daily yields about the same 500 calories/hour... You'll get more like 600-700 out of an inclined treadmill. And so on...

I lost 30 pounds in the last year, with little change in diet and the addition of regular exercise. But that was over the course of over six months training for a backpacking trip... And it also entailed strapping on an 80lbs backpack for a four mile hike twice a week (along with the ski simulator and other stuff). Weight loss, however, wasn't my primary goal, but rather cowboying-up for a 12 day backpacking trip. Not that I'm complaining about the weight loss...

Do the math, and check out the links. It seems possible to me, but you're going to spend AT LEAST a couple of hours a day at this. You'll find it's far, far easier to change diet, particularly if there's excess in your diet. Leave out that twinkie and a couple of Cokes every day, and you could save yourself a hour's workout.

What commercial Weight Loss programs are vegan?

I lost 90 pounds on a "whole plant based diet" (healthy vegan), but want help in losing another 60 pounds. Are there any commercial weight loss programs that are "vegan" in nature?

Gina Kolata describes the abysmal record of the most popular programs including Weight Watchers, Atkins, and medically supervised calorie restricted diets. Her deep research indicated that the vast majority of people fail to maintain much weight loss over a period of a few years.

What commercial programs are available to vegans?

answers:

Commercial diet programs sometimes rely on pre-packaged foods. They are not commonly associated with whole foods or with plant-based foods.

Congratulations on your 90-pound weight loss! Most likely, you are now feeling much more energetic and exercising more each day. Since you have been so successful, and you have been eating plant-based whole foods, you must have been doing much of your own cooking.

There are numerous weight loss programs in our society that?

There are numerous weight loss programs in our society that recommend low carbohydrate and high protein diets. What are some of the benefits that proteins provide when included in a balanced diet, and what are the dangers of overconsumption of proteins? What effects do these diets have on the body, both short-term and long term?

answers:

Protein (along with carbohydrates and fats) is one of the three macronutrients your body needs to function properly. It has many health benefits which include helping your body build and repair cells, helping your body produce antibodies, enzymes and hormones and helping your cuts heal. However, you can get too much of a good thing and protein is no exception. In this article I am going to be outlining four of the drawbacks of eating too much protein.

1) IT CAN HAVE A DEHYDRATING EFFECT:- In a four week study that looked at five endurance athletes who consumed low, medium and high levels of protein it was found that increased protein consumption lead to lower levels of hydration. Dehydration can cause a number of serious problems including extreme fatigue, muscle cramps, headaches, muscle spasms, difficulty breathing and loss of consciousness.

2) IT PROMOTES FAT STORAGE:- Many people believe that you can eat protein to your hearts content and not get fat. However, if you eat too many calories (whether they come from carbohydrates, fat or protein) they ultimately get stored as body fat. Eating more of this macronutrient whilst eating the same amount of calories can stimulate fat burning in your body but eating too many protein calories will lead to fat storage.

3) IT CAN LEAD TO KIDNEY STONES:- When protein is broken down this creates acids such as uric acid which increases the acidity levels in your blood. To combat this your body releases the alkaline substance calcium phosphate from your bones into the bloodstream. Overall, this increases urine levels of uric acid and calcium which can then both form into kidney stones.

4) IT CAN LEAD TO OSTEPOROSIS:- As discussed above eating high levels of protein can lead to calcium phosphate being released from the bones. Low levels of calcium in the bones can cause osteoporosis to develop. Osteoporosis reduces your bone density and can lead to your bones bending, breaking and fracturing much more easily than normal, healthy bones.

As you can see protein is not a super nutrient. Whilst it has many valuable functions when consumed properly, eating too much can lead to the problems discussed above. Increasing your protein intake moderately can help you build muscle and Burn Fat. Therefore, if you decide to eat more protein make sure that you do not consume it excessively.
In my experience all the weight loss programs are for nought. You have to really , really want to Lose Weight and stick to it. A low Glycemic diet coupled with exercise is the best one I have found. I don't feel cheated. Probably the only things I really miss are Potato's. Other than that I am happy. OH, and pizza.http://www.mendosa.com/gilists.htm
When I lowered my intake of carbs and exercised my cholesterol and blood pressure went from high to normal. That high blood pressure is the real killer. Now mine is 118/68 resting.

This way of eating is a great way for the whole family to eat. If you do , there will not be any Type 2 diabetes in your family.

Good luck

Hi J - I had the exact same problem! Last month I was doing some research and I found a great online source for free weight loss programs...

The reason I like this particular website so much is because it offered me several options and free tips for my weight loss. I've been overweight for several years now, and it's really a difficult thing to live with! I was really glad when I found this website. You can find it here: http://www.freeweightlossprogramsonline.biz/ The home page has lots of great information and advice on how to lose weight (the free tips are really helpful).

Just a little advice: you may want to do a search for "free weight loss programs online" (use the quotations). This might help you find other websites that can help in your weight loss goals.

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you're consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get an online, desktop, or cell phone diet and fitness calculator. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

Is there a fast way to lose weight?

Honestly it's not easy, you have to have definite will power. It all comes down to eating less and exercising more. It doesn't have to be extreme but cut out all the sugary stuff and do things that get you more active. I like to dance and workout at the gym about 3 times a week, I do about 10minutes of jogging, then about 20minutes on the bike. It may seem like nothing is happening at first but stick with it and it will work, guaranteed. Stay strong, you can do it!!

Count your calories from every single thing you eat. You will need to determine what the total amount of calories you consume on a daily basis without losing weight. Once you have that drop say 1000 from the daily intake and you'll lose weight fast.

Don't get too caught up with diet plans - at your age you need to eat balanced meals with everything in them.
An ideal diet for increased absorption of calcium is the whole plant based diet as described by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr. Eating too much dairy results in the depletion of calcium because of acidosis caused by excess animal proteins in milk. (Harvard's Nurses' Study) Excess animal proteins is a serious health risk.

To learn more, read about diets in books by Dr. Neal Barnard and Dr. Joel Fuhrman.

If you stop dairy, make sure to include a balance of leafy greens (calcium, iron, and protein) as well as legumes, whole grains, colorful vegetables, and fruit.

answers:

Of the choices, B is the best answer. However, the problem with obesity is that people are getting too much fuel. People who are obese actually need to eat foods that have less energy per unit mass or volume. Foods with high calorie densities, especially fat, actually cause people to eat larger volumes rather than smaller volumes.

The most important part of dieting is energy balance. That is, you will gain weight if your energy intake is greater than your energy expenditure, and you will Lose Weight if your energy expenditure is greater than your energy intake. That is, exercise is just as important as food.

answers:

First off, have a great time at the prom! Secondly, you want to get to that lower weight doing it healthy. 1200 is a reasonable amount of calories, but I'm pretty sure those calories are not coming from all the nutrients your body needs. You don't want your weight loss coming to a crashing halt! I know all about the crazy diets out there. You don't have to spend ANY money on a quick fix or gimmick that may not work or work only for a few weeks. I have been on a natural eating plan and I lost 50 pounds in about 5 months. You're younger, it may be faster. I also incorporated lots of exercise to burn more fat. This way of eating is called Paleo, or the Cave Diet. Eat everything your ancestors ate! If mother nature made it, eat it, if man made it, don't touch it! It's as simple as that. Go to the Cave Diet link below. You will Lose Weight, feel happier, glow from the inside out. Good luck!

answers:

The best advice I could ever give you is losing weight takes time. If you've tried and failed many times (which is what I am going through), you have to start slowly. Maybe start cutting out bad things in your diet little by little. You can't expect to go from eating sugary processed foods and not exercising much to extreme healthy eating and exercising 7 days a week in one day, or even one week. You have to learn to control yourself and that means start small and keep everything under control. Another VERY important thing to remember is to NEVER EVER EVER give up! No matter if you go a whole week eating junk foods and not exercising, that does not mean you have to give up and never reach your goals. Just think, well, next week I'll do better and get back on track. You have to believe you can do it. You have to want it for yourself and no one else.

Exercise at least 5 times per week. I suggest strength training and cardio. Let's say Monday you walk/run for 30 minutes, then Tuesday you would do push ups and sit ups and planks, and squats and then take a break Wednesday and start back up on Thursday.

As far as your eating you really need to watch what you eat! That is the most important step. Portion control is important. If you normally get a big dinner, then cut the amount of food you get in half and that will help a lot. Another way is to get your plate and only eat 3/4 of the food you have on your plate.

Eating healthy, lean meats, whole grain breads, and staying away from sugary things and high calorie foods. Always remember that cutting out something bad with something healthy really makes a difference. Drinking sodas and eating candy bars is empty calories. If you replace those things with a whole grain waffle or one small piece of dark chocolate it will really help.

i calculated from a weight loss calculator online that to maintain my current weight i should consume no more than 1700 calories a day and subtract 500 calories a day from that amount to lose about a pound a week. so i try to eat no more than 1200 calories a day. if i exercise and burn aprox. 200 calories does that mean i can eat 1400 calories a day and still lose the same amount of weight?
